Admission Procedure

1    Admission of GATE category candidates:

1.1      Admission will be offered according to merit list prepared on the basis of valid GATE score of the qualified candidates in the respective branch only.

1.2      For candidates with equal GATE score, the preference will be given to the candidates in following order:-

  1. Percentage of qualifying examination or equivalent CGPA
  2. Percentage of eighth semester in qualifying examination or equivalent CGPA
  3. Date of Birth (candidate who is older in age shall be given priority).

2     Admission of Non-GATE category candidates:

2.1  If sufficient number of GATE candidates is not available, Non-GATE candidates will be considered for the admission for vacant seats in the GATE category only.

2.2    Candidates who have passed bachelor’s degree in the respective or allied branch of engineering/technology as specified in Table-2 with the minimum 55% of marks will be eligible for admission to respective M Tech programme as Non-GATE candidate.

2.3    Candidate will be considered for admission on merit, based on their marks in the qualifying examination (70% weightage) and marks obtained in the written test and/or interview (30% weightage).

2.4        For Non-GATE candidates, syllabus for written test will be same as that of latest GATE Examination of concerned M.E. /M. Tech. programme. There will be objective type questions of 50 marks and the duration will be one hour. The entrance test and interview shall be conducted by a panel of faculty in the respective branch of M Tech programme. 

3     Admission of sponsored category candidates:

3.1      Candidates who pocess Bachelors degree in the respective or allied branch of technology as specified in Table-2 for admission to a particular M Tech programme, with the minimum 55% of marks in qualifying examination will be eligible for admission to respective M Tech programme.

3.2    The candidates must have minimum of consolidated 2 years of full time post qualification work experience in a technical institute like polytechnics/Engineering colleges and/or research organization /any Government Department or Government Autonomous Organizations/industry of repute at National/State level in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. Other conditions will apply as laid in the prospectus.

3.3    A Certificate from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to seek admission to the post-graduate degree programme, strictly in the format enclosed with the application form.

3.4    The admission procedure will be same as in section  3.2

3.5    In case, Sponsored candidates having equal merit marks calculated on the basis of qualifying degree examination, merit will be decided on the basis of:

  1. Percentage of eighth semester in qualifying examination or equivalent CGPA
  2. Date of Birth (candidate who is older in age shall be given priority).

3.6    Sponsored candidate seats will be filled up during the first round admission only.  In case, if sponsored candidate seats remain vacant, the same will be filled up by Gate Qualified and Non-Gate candidates as per admission procedure. 

4       Admissions of Sons & Daughters of Non Resident Indian(s)

4.1    Non -Resident Indian (NRI) means an Indian citizen who is ordinarily residing outside India and holds an Indian Pass port

4.2   A 5% of seats within sanctioned intake is provided for NRI category for admitting Sons & Daughters of Non Resident Indian(s)

4.3    In the event of non-availability of students in NRI category, the seats will be given to general candidates as per general merit. However, general fee shall be applicable to these candidates thus admitted against vacant NRI seats.

4.4    Fee structure as given in Table No.3

5       Admissions of Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Foreign Nationals/ Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries

5.1  Persons of Indian Origin(PIO) shall mean the persons who are citizens of other countries(except Pakistan and Bangladesh) who at any time held an Indian Passport, or who or either of his/her parents or any of his/her grandparents was a citizen of India by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of India of Sec.2(b) of the Citizenship Act(57 of 1955)

5.2    15 % of intake seats per Course under this scheme is provided on supernumerary basis from amongst Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) / Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries, over and above the approved intake, provided that 1/3rd of the 15% shall be reserved across different disciplines in the educational Institution, for the Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries. However, any vacant seats out of 1/3rd category shall be reverted to the quota of 2/3rd meant for PIO / Foreign Nationals. Admissions to these seats shall be done on merit basis among applicants of these categories.

5.3        Fee structure as given in Table No.3

6       Foreign(NRI/PIO) Students, who have qualified from Foreign Universities or Board of Higher Education recognized as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) / AICTE/MHRD. Admission of all the International Students shall be done as per the MHRD, GOI Guidelines available on http://education.nic.in/schtech.asp and will be processed by the “International Students Cell” of this institute.  The seats shall be allocated out of approved intake of respective programmes by the AICTE, New Delhi.  Fee and other details will be as per section 6 of this document.

7       All applications for admission to any PG Programmes will be received by Admission Committee on or before the schedule date notified in the advertisement and will be sent to the concerned department for scrutiny as per the eligibility and admission criteria mentioned above in Section-2 & 3 in the stipulated time fixed by the Admission Committee. After finalisation of the list of the eligible candidates, the same will be uploaded on the institutional web site through the concerned departments regarding written test and/or interview.
